Learning how to make money with website agency might seem daunting, but it’s entirely achievable with the right process and dedication. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the exact steps I used to scale my agency to $50,000/month in recurring revenue in just four years — all while working with local businesses in my community. No complicated funnels, no major financing — just a proven process that works.

Step 1: Find the Right Clients

Success begins with targeting the right market. My focus is on local businesses that have grown out of their DIY website phase. These are companies too big to manage their websites themselves but not large enough to need a full-time in-house team.

How to identify them:

  • Look for businesses with Wix or outdated websites in your area.
  • Target businesses with small teams (not one-man shows or corporations with 40+ staff).

These companies are ready to invest in professional support but don’t need enterprise-level solutions. They’re your sweet spot.

Step 2: Simplify Pricing

A clear, all-inclusive pricing model is key to closing deals. I offer:

  • Two plans: A 4-page website or a 10-page website.
  • Transparent pricing: All costs are bundled, with no surprise fees.

What’s included:

  • Domain and hosting.
  • Security updates.
  • Content and monthly maintenance (including Office 365 support).

For example, we charge $1,900 CAD upfront for a 4-page website and $200/month for hosting and maintenance. This all-inclusive approach reassures clients and makes it easy for them to say “yes.”

Step 3: Build a Detailed Process

Scaling your agency without a proper workflow is nearly impossible. Create a step-by-step project management system that covers every task from the first sales call to the final site launch.

Why this is critical:

  • Avoid missed details (like forgetting to configure contact forms — a mistake I’ve made in the past!).
  • Deliver consistent results to your clients.
  • Enable team members to handle projects seamlessly.

For example, our system includes everything from setting up DNS records and Office 365 accounts to final site testing and customer follow-ups.

Step 4: Use the Right Tools

Efficiency hinges on using reliable tools. Here’s what we rely on:

  • Bricks Builder: A lightweight, modern website builder that supports CSS-based workflows.
  • Automatic CSS (ACSS): A powerful framework for maintaining consistent styles across projects.
  • Duplicator: A plugin that allows us to clone pre-configured website templates for faster development.

By standardizing tools and creating reusable templates for common pages (e.g., shop pages, login pages, contact forms), you can drastically reduce development time.

Step 5: Take Control of Hosting

Don’t leave hosting to chance. Hosting your clients’ websites yourself ensures you can quickly address issues without chasing down passwords or contacting third-party providers.

How to implement this:

  • Rent a dedicated server (e.g., $500/month).
  • Use a control panel like cPanel to manage multiple sites efficiently.
  • Include hosting in your maintenance plans for added revenue.

Hosting hundreds of sites on your server quickly becomes profitable and gives you full control over your clients’ infrastructure.

The Path to $50,000/Month

Scaling your agency to $50,000/month isn’t magic — it’s about consistently following the process. Build just two websites per month and charge a recurring maintenance fee. Over time, your revenue will grow as you stack recurring income on top of new projects.

Here’s the math:

  • 25 clients paying $200/month = $5,000/month recurring revenue.
  • Add new builds monthly, and in 4 years, you’ll hit $50,000/month.

Final Thoughts

Running a successful web agency doesn’t require groundbreaking innovations — just a clear strategy, the right tools, and dedication to delivering exceptional results. Follow these five steps, and you’ll be well on your way to a stable, lucrative business.
